The Rodanthe Pier exists solely for the enjoyment of the fine people that love to visit, vacation, and live on the Outer Banks of North Carolina, whether they love to fish or just enjoy the beach. The pier is located at the 40 mile post on Hatteras Island in the village of Rodanthe. It has been restored after being damaged by Superstorm Sandy to a length in excess of 700 feet. A walk to the end of the pier puts you at a point that is the furthest east you can go on the coast of North Carolina. The pier is known for its Red Drum fishery and is home to a previous world record drum caught in 1973 by Elvin Hooper. Parts of the film "Nights In Rodanthe " were filmed on the pier in 2006.
